Last Wednesday I was lucky enough to fly to Omaha, NE., with Travis, Rachel and the rest of the team. From there we drove 120 miles to Des Moines, IA. and then eventually another 30 miles to Newton, IA, for the West race. Thursday was just a tech day so Shelby, Rachel and I found a nail salon and a Starbucks..even in that small town! Before going to Iowa, we all heard about how much corn we would see. I was honestly thinking that people were over exaggerating, but they weren't. Literally corn, for as far as the eyes could see. Even the race track was in the middle of a corn field! It was a very nice facility that was designed by Rusty Wallace and was first class all the way around. It is a 7/8Th's mile track and is very fast. We got to take a drive around it on Thursday and see first hand what it was like. Very fun :)
Friday was an early morning and full of practice for both the West and the Trucks. It was a fun day and by race time I finally convinced myself to get all the way on top of the hauler to watch. I have a fear of heights and panic at just the thought of being that high up, but I was actually alright. It was a good race that was dominated by David Mayhew who eventually got the win. Travis didn't have the best night but brought the car home in one piece and Jeff Barkshire finished 5th. We had a great time in Iowa and got many laughs out of the Corn alone :)
