Slacker!

Well I have been home since Monday morning but have yet to update my blog! How dare I.
Truthfully, I have just been enjoying being home :)

My trip to Sonoma was wonderful! I flew to Sacramento last Friday evening and my fried Holly picked me up. We pretty much went right to bed since we knew Saturday would be a long day! We woke up early on Saturday and it was beautiful out but already 80 degrees at 8:00 am. I knew I was in trouble :) I love nice weather, but I am not a fan of the heat, I like it about 75-80.

Holly's friend Jenny met up with us and we headed to the Sonoma Valley. What a beautiful area! I loved the hills and hills of wineries. I was so excited when we got to the track and got our credentials. We headed straight to the pits and I hung out with Shelby. We walked through the Cup garages for a bit and just hung out. So cool to be there with all the guys we always see on tv just walking around.

The West race started at about 12:30 and took over 3 hours to complete! There were a ton of cautions and lots of damaged cars. I hung out in Jeff's pit and Shelby gave me a radio so I was able to hear all their action. Jeff did a great job, especially with it being his first time on a road course. He finished 10th but he has a lot of work to do before the next race!

After the race we chatted with some friends and then headed up to our car. I rode with Jenny to an outlet mall in Napa and we shopped for a few hours. We found some great deals! We were all so tired and warn out from the hot sun all day, so we ended our day with a nice dinner at a Mexican cantina outside our hotel and then called it a night.

Sunday morning I was up early and ready to go! We had breakfast at Ihop and then headed to the track. We were pretty late getting there so we didn't get to hang out on pit road for very long before the race started. But, I did end up with my picture of Kyle & I, and although he wasn't very nice to me, it was still exciting. We pretty much seen all the drivers up close and that was neat. The race got going and we walked through the souvenir trailers, got some drinks and watched the race. I was so surprised to see Kyle take the lead since he hadn't practiced or qualified well, but like I always say, he is just that good!

Towards the end of the race, we headed up to turn 2 where the cars come up off of the front stretch, which was a cool view. I told Holly and her boyfriend Billy, that if Kyle was still leading at lap 103, I was going to head to Victory lane and sure enough he was. We were so lucky to have garage passes that allowed us access to these places. It was so exciting to have Kyle win! To go to a NASCAR race and have your favorite driver win is one thing, but to be able to be that close to Victory Lane, that was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced. I took tons of pictures but also just enjoyed the moment. I see that on tv and it looks a certain way, but it's totally different in person.

We hung around the garage for a bit after the race and then hit up some more souvenir trailers before heading back to our car. We got lucky and one of the employees of Infineon picked us up in a golf cart and took us all the way to our car. I was so happy for that as it is such a big track and my feet hurt so bad from walking for 2 straight days.

I had a great time being there and hanging out with Holly, Billy and Jenny. I've wanted to go to that track for so long and I'm happy that I can finally say I've been there!
